Today

TODAY There is just something about the simple word "today". Today comes every day, and yet lasts only one day. Do you know what I love about the start of each new day? God's mercies and compassions are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:22-23) In fact, everyday we get a fresh start, sort of like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, except that our today does have an effect on our tomorrow. We all know it's wise to plan for our future and the changes in our life we wish to see, but the only way to have a better future, is to have a better today. What will I do with my today? The word of God says that "Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 3:7-8) What has God asked you to do with your today? Whatever it is, do not delay. Do it. Don't let your heart become hardened, thinking, "Why God, would you ask me to do this?" Obey God, while you still have today. If you hear God's voice today, soften your heart to His voic...

Where does your pleasure come from?

Where does your pleasure come from?   “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” 1 John 2:15-17 NIV Pleasure is a thing each one of us enjoys and enjoys in different ways. Many times we are drawn to people who enjoy similar pleasures as ourselves, for example, trips to the beach, ice cream, movie genres.   God made us and gave us the ability to enjoy things on this earth He created. But is all pleasure good?   After Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit, he was sent into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil after 40 days of fasting. He was tempted in the 3 most common ways as stated in 1 John 2:15-17, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the prid...

The Change In Us Changes Others

The Change In Us Changes Others. How do we change? Become God's servant By submitting If we submit to God’s rule, authority, His kingdom and His ways in our lives, we can make an eternal impact in our world and not just within the circle of people God has placed us with, but beyond that with people we've never met.  Many of the references I'll make in this will be to Daniel in Daniel chapter 6, so I encourage you to read Daniel chapter 6 before proceeding.  To Be God's servant, we must submit to God's rule.  James 4:7 says "submit yourself to God" The definition of submit (google dictionary) is - accept or yield to a superior force or to the authority or will of another person. To submit to God as his servant means we are willing to accept His authority, His will. Doesn't that sound familiar to the Lord's prayer? "Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done" Submission doesn't come easy to anyone. For som...

What are you chasing after?

What are you chasing after? Success. Friendship. Wealth. The next promotion. Attention. Affection. Recognition. Jealousy. Sanity. Love. We are all chasing after something. Seeking improvement or peace. We can’t possibly stay put and accept what we currently have as all we will ever need. No, we don’t want to be stagnant.   But what does God’s word say? King Solomon a man of great wisdom said, “I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity, a futile grasping and chasing after the wind .” (Ecclesiastes 1:14) Is everything a chasing after the wind?   Goals are great. Motivation is wonderful. Purpose is everything.   But what does it all become after we are gone?   There is one thing to chase that isn’t wind. Something we can live for that won’t leave when we are gone. It’s God’s kingdom. Becoming a servant, a follower of Christ.   What does that mean? What does it m...

Where do you find comfort?

Where do you find comfort?   Comfort comes in many forms. From the moment we are born we look for comfort, from our mothers, pacifiers, thumbs, “blankies”, the list could go on.   In fact science has shown that comfort is released in the human brain as dopamine. Too much dopamine and an addictive personality is born.   People with addictive personalities are usually obvious in their addiction to food, tobacco, sex, alcohol, marijuana, gambling, pornography, video games, overspending and even sports.   Some of these addictions as the world knows can be more debilitating than others, but many people struggle with these addictions. Before my personal encounter with Christ, I was addicted to alcohol, cigarettes, sex, and before long, my life was soon spiraling out of my control. I remember a non-Christian friend of mine recommending God to me.  That’s when I knew I needed to turn to God once and for all.   And so I did, I confessed my sins to my ...
